Old wooden houses, warm drifting spices, polished teak, and the earthy richness of patchouli inspire Rigaud Paris Bois Précieux Scented Candle, a sophisticated woody home fragrance designed to evoke memories of Asia and the atmosphere of an ancient city.
Meaning “Precious Wood,” Bois Précieux is built around an uncommon harmony of patchouli and teak, giving the fragrance its distinctive woody and subtly exotic character. Bright touches of lemon and bergamot introduce freshness before the composition warms into aromatic clove. Beneath it all, patchouli, teak, and sandalwood create a deep, smooth foundation of precious woods and earthy warmth.
The result is refined rather than rustic. Citrus provides just enough brightness to lift the darker woods, while clove introduces the impression of warm spice drifting through the air. Patchouli brings earthy depth, teak adds the character of polished wood, and sandalwood rounds the composition with a smooth, enveloping warmth.
Created by historic French fragrance house Rigaud Paris, Bois Précieux continues a home-fragrance tradition stretching back generations. Founded in Paris in 1852, Rigaud later pioneered the modern scented candle in 1959 with the introduction of its legendary Cyprès candle.
Available in 230 g Large and 60 g Small sizes, Bois Précieux brings the warmth of fine woods and exotic spices to spaces both large and intimate.

Heart Note: Clove
Base Notes: Patchouli, Teak, Sandalwood
Scent Family: Woody, Spicy

Bois Précieux opens with lemon and bergamot, lending a restrained citrus brightness to the composition before quickly revealing its warmer character.
Clove provides the transition into the woods, introducing aromatic spice reminiscent of warm air carrying the fragrance of a distant spice market.
The base is where Bois Précieux reveals its true personality. Earthy patchouli meets the distinctive character of teak, while sandalwood brings a smoother, softer warmth to the composition.
Together, these elements create a fragrance that feels like entering an old wood-paneled interior filled with polished furniture, warm spices, and traces of incense and earth carried in from the streets outside.
The Story Behind Bois Précieux
Bois Précieux, or Precious Wood, is Rigaud's olfactory journey through memories of Asia.
The Maison evokes an ancient city filled with wooden houses and warm, drifting spices, translating the imagined textures and aromas of that setting into an elegant home fragrance.
At the center is an unusual pairing of patchouli and teak.
Patchouli brings its characteristic earthy depth, while teak suggests warm, polished wood. Sandalwood adds another layer of smooth woody richness, and clove introduces the heat of spice.
Lemon and bergamot provide a contrasting flash of brightness, keeping the deeper materials from becoming overly dense.
The result is both atmospheric and sophisticated: old wood, warm spice, earth, and citrus interpreted through the refined lens of French perfumery.
The Rigaud Candle Tradition
The story of Maison Rigaud began in Paris in 1852, when Jean-Baptiste Rigaud began creating the distinctive fragrances that would establish the house's reputation in France and abroad.
More than a century later, Mario Rigaud and his wife Viviane conceived an entirely new way to fragrance the home. In 1959, Rigaud introduced Cyprès, which the Maison identifies as the world's first commercially marketed scented candle.
Today, Rigaud continues to handmake its candles in France, combining carefully composed fragrances with its distinctive patented soft wax.
When lit, the wax liquefies evenly across the vessel, allowing the fragrance to diffuse consistently while helping the candle burn cleanly and evenly. Each candle is slowly cooled, finished, and packaged by hand in keeping with the Maison's traditions of French craftsmanship.
